Havlicek, „Platons Auffassung von Seele und Körper im Phaidon (78b-84b, 91c95a)“, in: A. Havlicek, F. Karfik (ed.), Plato’s Phaedo: Proceedings of the Second Symposium Platonicum Pragense, Praha 2001. In this paper I examine two different accounts of the human soul presented in dialogue Phaedo. Socrates appears to hold a Pythagorean concept of soul, which is immortal and absolutely separate from the body. But in later stages of the dialogue (91c-115a) Socrates argues rather for the dialectical relation between soul and body. This change I consider not as a change in Socrates’ view but as a Plato’s „staging“ of the dialogue. Plato defends the philosophy which seeks the harmonical relation between body and soul with a view to action in polis against the Pythagorean pure philosophical life „outside the Cave“.
